Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is the home of Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, which some of you may be familiar with. Joe has guested with FC a few times and is a self-confessed lifelong fan! He recently set up the Global Traditional Music Department where you can study post-graduate courses in pretty much anything folk music related - you could even do a study into Fairport Convention if you wanted to! To go along with this there is a newly launched Global Traditions concert series which aims to bring the finest Folk related music from around the world, right into the centre of Birmingham.
To help get the Global Traditions concert series off the ground, to support Joe’s work, and to help secure a great venue for Folk music for the future (at a time when a lot of venues are turning to tribute bands and the like to stay afloat!) Fairport are donating their time to play a special concert in the grand setting of Bradshaw Hall at RBC.

“I was five years old when I saw Fairport and it changed my life forever! I quickly took up the fiddle and 43 years later here I am, still playing but also trying to pass the music on to as many young people as possible… and I’m still a Fairport fan. I’m truly gobsmacked at the generosity of these guys, who are coming to support my mission to keep great live folk music at the heart of Birmingham and Conservatoire life. Come and join us for an epic night and help us keep bringing great music into Birmingham for everyone to enjoy. Massive thanks to Peggy, Simon, Chris and Ric. Cheers everyone and hopefully see you there!” - Joe Broughton, 11/09/2024
